I asked for a referral from my primary care physician yesterday for care he offered to provide me himself but which he is not particularly qualified to administer. He took it well, I think. As I was leaving his office, he said, "Come back when I can do something for you."
I don't expect or want doctors to know everything. Just, it's important that they know what they don't know. Not just decide to wing it. With my body.
